Q: Who can participate?

A: Any Home Provider who 1) has a spare room, and 2) can benefit from having another person in the home. Any Home Sharer who identifies as 2SLGBTQ+ can participate. No restrictions on age.

Q: Why just members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community?

A: For the pilot program, we wanted to address an underserved portion of the city's population.

Q: What does it cost?

A: There is no fee to apply. To remain sustainable as a service, there is a small monthly fee payable by the Home Owner, so we may be able to provide ongoing support.

Q: As a Home Provider, what can I ask for help with?
A: Any aspect of home maintenance that does not require training to do properly and safely. So, you can ask for help with outdoor maintenance such as snow shovelling and mowing the lawn, but not clearing the gutters of leaves. Indoor tasks include sweeping, vacuuming, doing dishes, and taking care of your dog, but not tasks that constitute personal care or financial management, or may require someone in a licensed profession, such as a nurse or plumber.

Q: Is food included in rent?

A: It could be! Depends on the nature of the Home Sharer's agreement with the Home Provider.

Q: Why should I go through you to find a tenant, and not find one on my own?

A: You may be on our site because you have tried and had a bad experience, or you're excited for someone else to do this work for you, since it can be a lot of work to find a suitable tenant. Our program has an emphasis on establishing community ties, not making an income on empty space but rather pairing two people to help each other with their needs.

Q: What's next?

A: As we grow, we will foster a community among the people affected by social isolation through activities, workshops, and resource sharing.
